A special illustrated booklet titled Peace Girl will be launched next Thursday (1 June) at the National Institute of Special Education, also known as the NISE school. Peace Girl is about a deaf teenage girl who is highly skilled on a skateboard, possesses excellent analytical abilities, and is a fighter for social justice. The comic book was developed by children from the school for the hearing impaired in Windhoek, and the illustrations were designed by Tafy Tang Arts. The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) joined hands with NISE school for this initiative.

"Deaf children deserve to have their own heroes – someone they can look up to, someone who can inspire them," says the organisation. The book is only eight pages long, but "we hope to expand it in the future." This project was made possible with the support of the Embassy of Bulgaria in South Africa.
