Educating for more than 100 years
Aurora Primary School was built more than 100 years ago, first opening its doors to learners in 1902.
Aurora Primary School, the first primary school built in Okahandja in 1902, has been operating successfully for more than 100 years.According to the school's mission, it aims to provide high-quality teaching and learning in a nurturing atmosphere so that students can become informed and responsible citizens. Aurora Primary School aspires to be the area's top school, producing champions who can overcome their own limitations and illuminate the world.
Three cleaners, two secretaries, and 39 teachers work at Aurora Primary School. Over the past few years, the school has seen a significant increase in student enrolment, reaching 1 657.
Growing stronger
Due to the large number of students and the inability of the classrooms to accommodate all students at once, the school offers classes in two parts: the morning and the afternoon.
The school has plans to build three additional classrooms, but "due to financial constraints," the plan cannot be carried out immediately, and "will take longer than we anticipated," school secretary Ester Uudhila explained. She said that while the school does not currently receive financial support through sponsorships, they are working to raise money to construct additional classes.
In 2003, the school established a kitchen to serve more than 100 students in need of nutritional support.
The school welcomed its first set of pre-primary learners 110 years after it was first established.
The first pre-primary class was constructed in 2012, the second in 2013, the third in 2014, and the fourth in 2021.
