Member of the defence force: Petrus Nathinge

Brigadier General Petrus Nathinge says he was inspired to join the Namibian Defence Force because of the liberation. “After joining the liberation struggle army of Namibia I never looked back. I enjoy being a soldier and serving my country,” he says.
As the director of Central Defence, his daily tasks include providing support to the office of the permanent secretary, the office of the minister as well as the office of the Chief of Defence Force. He does it through inter-ministerial coordination. He also coordinates strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation and deals with international relations.
“In the Namibian Defence Force there are different military training courses. These courses qualify you to take up different positions of command on different levels.” Although there are military courses, there are also academic requirements for moving up higher ranks. He obtained his degree in Business Administration and he also has a master’s degree in international relations.
