Nurse: Gabriel Vasconcelos

Many nurses provide care within the ordering scope of physicians. Nurses develop a plan of care, working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, the patient, the patient's family and other team members, that focuses on treating illness to improve quality of life when visiting hospitals or clinics.
Gabriel Vasconcelos is a nurse at the Rundu State Hospital. According to him “the corner stone of being a nurse is caring for people”.
Nurses are responsible of performing physical exams and documenting health histories as well as providing counselling and health education.
Vasconcelos shares that he was inspired to take up nursing as a career because of his love for people. “I love caring for people and I do not like seeing people endure pain so I always want help where I can.”
He became a qualified nurse after completing a certificate in general nursing and midwifery, and he is currently in his final year at the University of Namibia completing his comprehensive diploma in general nursing and midwifery.
He says the most satisfying element about his job is being able to give people hope and also being able to contribute to their health and wellbeing.
