OSS celebrates Namibia’s cultural diversity
Learners at Okahandja Secondary School (OSS) marked Independence with a vibrant celebration. The event brought together learners from different cultural backgrounds, including Herero, Damara, and Kavango groups, each showcasing their unique traditions and customs.
Teachers said the occasion aimed to go beyond entertainment, providing a platform for learners to appreciate and celebrate Namibia’s rich cultural heritage.
Music, dance and laughter filled the air as groups took to the stage. The Damara group drew strong applause with a synchronised performance of their popular traditional dance. Herero learners performed the Otjina dance, dressed in traditional attire, while other groups presented their own distinct cultural expressions.
However, it was the San group’s performance that stood out for many in the audience. Their bold and energetic display highlighted their cultural heritage with confidence and pride.
The event underscored the importance of preserving Namibia’s cultural identity while also reflecting the enthusiasm and unity among the learners.
