Windhoek High School’s annual Blue Factor competition has once again placed student creativity at the centre stage, offering learners a platform to express themselves through performance and storytelling.

Held in 2026, the event transformed the school into a lively showcase of music, poetry, drama, and instrumental performance. More than a talent show, Blue Factor is widely regarded within the school community as a space where learners test their confidence, explore identity, and develop their artistic voice.

A range of performances reflected both personal experiences and broader social themes. Poetry winner Hope Basson delivered a piece inspired by corruption, urging reflection on national challenges. She described poetry as a safe and powerful outlet for expressing complex ideas and emotions.

In the vocal category, Ashrah Platt performed I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston, drawing on personal memories to convey themes of love and vulnerability. She said music allows her to connect with others on a deeper emotional level and hopes to pursue it further.

Instrumentalist Lisa-Claire Nuumbemba impressed judges with a piano rendition of Je te laisserai des mots by Patrick Watson. Having played for two years, she highlighted the difficulty of balancing technical precision with emotional interpretation, adding that music is something to be “felt, not just heard”.

Drama winner Alric Schrader delivered an intense performance portraying desperation shaped by unrequited love. He noted that acting requires both emotional honesty and technical control, particularly in voice projection and physical expression.

Organisers say the competition continues to grow in significance each year. For many participants, it represents a defining moment - an opportunity to step beyond their comfort zones and discover hidden potential.

As Blue Factor evolves, it remains a key fixture on the school calendar, celebrating individuality while inspiring the next generation of performers.
