Big power from Ruacana
Ruacana Power Station has been generating at its maximum available since December, says NamPower. This is due to increased flows in the Kunene River, generating over 1150 GWh of electricity during the period July 2024 to 6 March 2025, which is above the historical average of Ruacana generation, according to managing director Kahenge Haulofu.
He said that the increased flow is thanks to prevailing good rainfall since November 2024 in the Kunene River’s catchment area in Angola. This is in line with the climate outlook from the Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-29), which forecasted predominantly normal rainfall in the catchment area, he added.
“We are currently experiencing much needed good rains in the Ruacana area, which is good for human life after a period of drought.”
