The sixth edition of the Bank Windhoek Agri Series spotlighted the critical role of genetic diversity and sustainable farming in strengthening Namibia’s agricultural sector. Hosted at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM), the event brought together government officials, financial institutions, farmers, researchers, and industry stakeholders.

Delivering the keynote on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Inge Zaamwani, Deputy Executive Director Kingsley Kwenani emphasised that genetic diversity is essential for agricultural resilience. “It underpins our ability to adapt, innovate, and compete, enabling drought tolerance, pest resistance, nutritional enhancement, and improved yields,” he said.

Kwenani linked these priorities to Namibia’s Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), highlighting strategic initiatives such as the Namibia Agricultural Mechanisation and Seed Improvement Project (NAMSIP), the Conservation Agriculture and Climate-Smart Initiatives (CCAP II), and the Livestock Support Programme.

Kwenani also introduced the new Strategy for the Transformation of the Agri-Food Sector (STAS), which outlines investment priorities and stakeholder roles, providing a blueprint for agriculture within NDP6. He urged participants to use the Agri Series as a turning point where “vision meets action” in shaping Namibia’s agricultural future.

Bank Windhoek Managing Director James Chapman reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to empowering farmers through tailored financial solutions, sustainability loans, and strategic partnerships, including collaborations with John Deere. “Agriculture is a cornerstone of our nation’s economy and food security,” Chapman said.

The event featured expert presentations from Jacque Els (Namibia Stud Breeders Association), Thinus Pretorius (Namibia Agricultural Union), Erastus Ngaruka (Agribank), and Goi Geurtse (SWAVET). Discussions focused on genetic diversity, sustainable farming, rangeland management, and animal health — underscoring the importance of knowledge-sharing, innovation, and collective action for Namibia’s agricultural resilience.

Established in 2019, the Bank Windhoek Agri Series continues to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and empowerment, ensuring a sustainable and productive future for Namibia’s farming communities.
