The Namibia Financial Institution Supervisory Authority (Namfisa) this week broke ground on its planned headquarters that will be situated along Independence Avenue.

The construction of the building will aid it to fulfil its mandate, Namfisa board chairperson Hettie Garbers-Kirsten said.

"Our strategic intent with this new building is clear: to create a modern, efficient and conducive environment that will enable Namfisa to better serve the financial services industry, and, most importantly, the Namibian people," Garbers-Kirsten said.

"To ensure the successful execution of its noble mandate, Namfisa requires a conducive environment to operate from, namely office premises that are fit for purpose. Our new headquarters will be a beacon of stability and progress, reflecting our dedication to safeguarding the interests of consumers and investors and maintaining the integrity of the financial system while remaining financially sustainable," Namfisa CEO Kenneth Matomola explained.

The project’s estimated cost of construction is set at N$236 million.
