Sharp increase in ear tag prices from November
Livestock producers have been officially notified of an upcoming increase in ear tag prices, effective from 1 November 2025. The notice, issued by the FAN Meat Ear Tag Division, cites rising supply costs as the reason for the adjustment.Under the new pricing structure, the cost of a standard bovine ear tag will rise to N$28.15 from N$24, while large bovine ear tags will cost N$29.50 up from N$27. Bovine ear tags marked NCA will also be priced at N$28.15 up from N$24. For small stock intended for export to South Africa, the price will increase to N$5.45 per tag up from N$4.85.
Small stock tags intended for local use are still to be purchased from Agra.
In addition to the price changes, the notice introduces an alternative supplier for cattle producers. AllFlex ear tags will now be made available, giving producers a choice between the standard supplier and AllFlex products. Under this option, a standard bovine ear tag from AllFlex will cost N$33.50, while a large bovine ear tag will be priced at N$37.50.
Ear tags play an essential role in livestock management, providing identification for individual animals, tracking health and breeding information, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for both domestic and export markets.
Producers seeking further information or clarification are encouraged to contact the FAN Meat Ear Tag Division directly.
