Danie Joubert Combined School turned 50 this year and celebrated in the grandest manner possible.

The school is a second home to learners because it is where they grow, where they fail, where they communicate, but - most importantly - it is where they succeed.

Danie Joubert is honoured that it has made learners successful and respectable members of the community and the world for the past five decades. Yes, readers, you read that last part right - it has already been five decades of this wonderful school’s existence. The school that opened its doors in 1973 is still standing five decades later.

Before diving any deeper into the school's birthday, which was 1 April, let's quickly look at what the school did before the big day.

Each day for 50 days, the learners would come for assembly and do different activities together. Here are some of the main and fun activities the school did before the big day: The school planted trees on World Plant Day to show the importance of plants on earth and the other celebrations were just for fun, like Happy Socks Day, where learners and teachers could wear their casual socks. There were also 50 golden tickets that were hidden in different places on the school premises and whoever found one could win a small prize, just to mention a few.

Danie Joubert celebrated its 50th birthday and its Fun Run Day on 1 April, as stated before. The big day started off with the annual big walk from Spar Mariental to the Danie Joubert school premises. There was also a parade and the Mariental fire station also decided to join the party.

The finalists for Miss Danie Joubert were also in attendance to show the crowd a glimpse of what they brought on 28 April. The beautiful finalists were looking as stunning as always. There was also a little show for the crowd to enjoy during their walk to the school. A group of girls known as the ‘Trompopies’, couched by Mrs Louw, showed off their dance moves and the ones who missed the show during the walk got to see them perform again at the school.

The big day ended at the school premises where people could rest and eat some wonderful food and there were so many activities done that a whole book could be written about them. Danie Joubert Combined School hopes that it can have a celebration like this in the next 50 years and it hopes that all learners who celebrated with them this year are successful and that they are respectable members of the community and the world, so that 50 years from now, they can come and celebrate with them once more.
