A night to remember
On 24 July 2026, Duneside High School’s Grade 11 learners stepped away from their usual school routine for an evening of dressing up, dancing and celebrating with friends at the annual Matric Dance.
The event gave learners a chance to spend time together outside the classroom and celebrate the friendships and memories they have built during their school years. For many, it was also an opportunity to pause and appreciate the journey they have shared before moving closer to the final stage of their high school careers.
Excitement filled the venue as learners arrived dressed for the occasion. The young men wore suits, while the young women arrived in a variety of elegant dresses. Decorations, music and dancing added to the atmosphere as classmates gathered for the evening.
One of the highlights was the announcement of Karl David as Prom King and Peyton Kaitjirokere as Prom Queen.
While the titles added to the excitement, the evening was ultimately about the learners and the journey they have shared at Duneside High School. Laughter, photographs, dancing and conversations with friends gave them a chance to enjoy the moment and create memories together.
As the learners move closer to the final stage of their school careers, the dance also served as a reminder of how quickly their high school years have passed. An evening away from lessons and assignments gave them time to celebrate where they are now and look ahead to what comes next.
The Matric Dance brought learners, teachers and members of the school community together to celebrate the Grade 11 class and the next chapter that awaits them.
