A second chance to rise
For some learners, a second chance can make all the difference.
That was the message behind Wombulu Private School’s (WPS) annual awards ceremony, held last Saturday at the Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila Resource and Vocational School Hall in Outapi under the theme “A Second Chance to Rise”.
Founded in 2023 in Onakayale Village, WPS is registered with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture to provide a second chance at secondary education and administer NSSCO examinations.
The ceremony recognised achievements in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities and staff dedication.
Academic performance took centre stage, with Thank-You Kalola receiving the school’s Dux Learner award for the highest overall academic achievement.
Kalola described the achievement as unexpected, saying it had boosted his confidence.
Learners who achieved more than 60% in individual subjects were also recognised, with top performers including:
- English: Regina Shakenda
- Mathematics: Amadhila Amukoto
- Physics: Tobias Shapinga
- Chemistry: Beata Petrus
- Biology: Diina Erastus
- Geography: Rauna Konhindi
- Development Studies: Loide Eita
- Business Studies: Paskalia Hipandwa

Top performers in subject combinations included Rauna Konhindi in two subjects, Kevin Kamati in three subjects and Hilya Kayawala in four subjects.
The awards also recognised learners who contributed to school life beyond their academic work.
Members of the learner representative council (LRC) were recognised for their leadership, with a special award for the most dedicated LRC member. Excellence in discipline awards also recognised learners who demonstrated good character.
The school’s extracurricular groups competed for the Champion Team Award, with the soccer team taking first place, followed by the Student Christian Movement (SCM) in second and the Chess Club in third.
Learners’ interest in science and problem-solving was also recognised through the Mathematics and Science Quiz Award.
The ceremony ended by recognising the teachers and staff members who support learners behind the scenes.
Awards included the Staff Appreciation Award, Innovation in Education Award, Beyond the Classroom Excellence Award and Employee Excellence Award.
