Chris-Ella-mass: A year of memories and moments
This year, Ella Du Plessis High School has been filled with moments of joy, laughter and friendship. Every morning, learners gather in their classrooms, united by the school badge.
Stories are shared, laughter fills the corridors and memories are made. After all, what would a school year be without them?
High school is about more than lessons and homework. It is also about the stories learners will one day tell. If the walls of Ella Du Plessis High School could talk, they would have plenty to say.
Between the 07:30 and 13:30 school routine, it is often the little moments that keep learners engaged and make school life memorable.
At the heart of Per ardua astra are the groups and activities that help shape the school’s culture, bringing energy, learning and a sense of community to the school.
Speaking up and standing out
The Debate Team has shown confidence and courage by taking to the stage and bringing home several trophies.
“Debating is something that I have admired ever since I joined the school debate team. It is really interesting,” said Rico Kadalwa.
The STEM group has also shown impressive scientific initiative. The team progressed through the first round of the Be Free Youth Camp and secured third place. They also took part in the Innovation Camp, returning with valuable experience and motivation for the year ahead.
“The competition was not a joke,” said Crystal Katukula.
For first-timer Neverson Kawana, the experience was both challenging and rewarding.
“As a first-timer, the competition was rather nerve-wracking, honestly, but it was a great experience with all the teamwork,” he said.\
Making a difference
The Environmental Club has also been doing its part to make the school a greener place. Members pick up litter each week, plant trees and encourage fellow learners to care for the environment.
Their message is simple: “Save water.”
But school life is not only about competitions and community projects. It is also about having fun and celebrating talent.
In February, the school hosted its annual Mr and Miss Greeny talent show, allowing learners to take the stage and showcase their talents.
The event ended with Shadon Beukus and Fransina Gustaf being crowned Mr and Miss Greenies 2026.
In the end, school is not only about who achieved the most or left the biggest mark. It is also about the people, friendships and moments that make the journey worthwhile.
Just as Christmas is about more than presents, school is about celebrating the people who make it special.
So, buckle up because, ho ho ho... it’s Chris-Ella-mass!
