“Being Head Boy is an honour because I get to represent my school and fellow learners,” Hendricks says, reflecting on the responsibility that comes with his role.

As a student leader, Hendricks believes leadership should not be about authority. Instead, he says it should be built on responsibility, vision and the ability to set a positive example.

He believes learners are more likely to respect and follow a leader based on their actions rather than their position. “People do not follow titles; they follow behaviour,” he says.

This belief has shaped his approach to leadership and taught him valuable lessons about what it takes to lead effectively. Respect, discipline, teamwork and integrity are among the values he considers essential to good leadership.

For Hendricks, leading by example means being willing to practise what he expects from others. He believes a leader should not simply tell people what to do, but demonstrate the standards and values they want others to uphold.

“I believe a good leader must lead by example and do what he says,” he says.

His time as Head Boy has become an important learning experience, helping him build confidence while understanding the importance of accountability. He recognises that being a student leader comes with expectations, but also sees it as an opportunity to grow and make a meaningful contribution to the school community.

Hendricks is grateful for the opportunity to serve and remains committed to carrying out his responsibilities with honesty and confidence. His approach to leadership is rooted in the belief that influence comes through actions, consistency and the way people treat others.

As he continues his journey as Head Boy, Hendricks hopes to set a positive example for his fellow learners and encourage them to recognise their own potential to lead.
