Health campaign turns knowledge into action

More than awareness
What started as a campaign to teach learners about hygiene and health is growing into an initiative focused on making a real difference in the community.

The school’s Health Awareness Campaign was established to educate learners about good hygiene and help them understand diseases, infections and viruses. However, campaign manager Tiffany Gregory says the initiative is about more than raising awareness.

The campaign also organises fundraising events and activities that bring members together while supporting people in need.

One recent fundraiser, held at a football stadium, raised N$30,000. The money was used to support a newly opened orphanage, with part of the funds also going towards textbooks.

For campaign members, the achievement was about more than the amount raised. They were proud to see their efforts make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

The success has encouraged the group to set bigger goals. Members plan to organise more fundraising activities, with the long-term aim of raising enough money to open a soup kitchen for homeless people.

“We want to continue helping people in our community and expand what the campaign can do,” Gregory said.

The campaign is seeking support from local businesses and community members as it works towards its next goal.

By combining health education with community action, the campaign is giving young people an opportunity to turn their knowledge, teamwork and determination into practical support for those around them.
