‘Marvels of Wennie’ celebrates matric milestones
Wennie du Plessis Secondary School’s Matric Farewell last year brought together glamour, culture, music and excitement under the theme “Marvels of Wennie”.
The evening gave matric learners an opportunity to celebrate the end of an important chapter in their lives and the friendships they had built along the way.
The farewell was marked by elegant outfits, laughter and memorable moments. Learners expressed their personalities through their fashion choices, adding colour and character to the occasion. Friends gathered for photographs, shared laughter and danced together, making the most of their final moments as classmates before embarking on new journeys beyond high school.
Beyond the glamour and festivities, the evening also celebrated cultural identity and pride. One of the highlights was the entrance of Shantel Mafunga, who represented her Tswana heritage in an outfit featuring traditional cultural designs.
A Tswana cultural group performed a traditional dance before her entrance, adding to the significance of the moment. The performance highlighted the importance of embracing one’s heritage while growing, exploring new opportunities and moving into different stages of life. It was a reminder that culture remains an important part of identity and that celebrating one’s roots is something to be proud of.
As the evening continued, learners enjoyed the music, dancing and company of their peers, creating memories they will carry with them long after leaving school.
More than just a farewell celebration, “Marvels of Wennie” gave the matric class an opportunity to reflect on their school years, celebrate their achievements and appreciate the friendships they had formed.
The evening captured the spirit of Wennie du Plessis Secondary School and gave the matric learners a memorable send-off as they prepared for the next chapter of their lives.
