Outjo Secondary School hosted its annual Miss Freshman pageant on 28 March 2026, providing a platform to welcome new learners into high school life.

The event, now a tradition at the school, gave newcomers the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, logic, talents and personalities. Nine contestants took part in this year's competition.

Former Miss Namibia contestants Delia Khaises and Preclina Sagarias played a role in preparing and mentoring the contestants, with organisers saying their involvement inspired participants and contributed to the success of the event.

According to the Learners’ Representative Council (LRC), the pageant was not only about crowning a winner, but also about giving new learners a voice and encouraging unity among students from different cultural backgrounds.

The 2026 LRC introduced a creative and environmentally friendly approach to the event, including new decorations and safety measures. Wristbands were issued to attendees instead of traditional ink markings, in a move aimed at preventing skin irritation and infection.

Entertainment chairperson Fredrico Hanadaob said the event ran smoothly.

“The event was successful because there was no conflict throughout the programme. We made sure health and safety measures were followed for everyone attending,” he said.

After a competitive showcase, Shaida Neumbo was crowned Miss Freshman 2026 and also won the Miss Public Choice title.

Nandi, from Outjo Project Secondary School, was named first runner-up, while Naomi Shipumbu placed second runner-up.

Head girl Thandeka Nangombe said the pageant gave the student council valuable experience in event planning and organisation.

She said the event celebrated confidence, teamwork and the empowerment of young women, and had become a memorable part of the school’s annual calendar.
