The Academia Secondary School hall was transformed into an evening of confidence, creativity and entertainment on 26 June 2026, as learners gathered for the highly anticipated Mr and Miss Academia pageant.

The pageant was organised by Mervis Angula and members of the Senior Council, with support from Senior Council guardian Ms Mekhile and the school principal, who approved the event. Their efforts turned the school hall into a lively stage where contestants had the opportunity to showcase more than just their appearance.

The evening began with the contestants’ introduction, during which they wore white shirts and blue jeans while performing an opening dance. The atmosphere became more exciting as the contestants progressed through the swimwear, creative wear, traditional wear, and formal wear rounds. Each category gave them a chance to demonstrate confidence, personality and creativity in front of the audience.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came from the school’s girls’ dance group, who delivered a spectacular Amapiano performance. Their energetic routine had the audience cheering and added even more excitement to an already lively evening.

After all the rounds had been completed, the judges carefully considered the contestants before announcing the winners. Tavizee Tjozongoro was crowned Miss Academia, while Fernando Gabriel took the title of Mr Academia.

Their achievements were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.

One Senior Council member described the event as a great success, saying they were glad the contestants were able to showcase their skills and talents, even though not everyone could win. They also expressed gratitude to the artists who took the time to perform and to the principal for allowing the Senior Council to organise the event and demonstrate what Academia Secondary School could achieve.

The pageant was important because it reminded learners that education extends beyond academic achievement. Schools should also provide opportunities for learners to discover and showcase their abilities through sport, the performing arts and events such as pageants.
