Namdeb has donated three solar geysers to Suiderlig Secondary School in the //Kharas Region.

Valued at N$79 000, the systems will be installed as part of ongoing hostel renovations and are intended to improve water heating while supporting renewable energy use.

The donation follows a pledge made at the school’s fundraising gala dinner last year, aimed at upgrading facilities. The initiative was facilitated by Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Gaudentia Krohne, who engaged Namdeb to secure support.

//Kharas regional education director Nicolaas Eiman said the infrastructure would have a positive impact on learner welfare. “Today is a celebration of a promise kept,” he said. “We are deeply grateful to Namdeb. By providing hot water to this hostel, you have restored comfort for our learners. This is an important investment in our educational infrastructure.”

Namdeb chief executive officer Riaan Burger said the company remained committed to community investment beyond mining operations. “Our role is to respond to needs such as this,” he said. “The value of the business does not end when mining is complete. Mining is finite, and what matters is the legacy left behind.”

He said that legacy included investing in the country and its people.

Krohne praised Namdeb’s contribution, describing it as an example of corporate citizenship. “Namdeb not only draws value from our land but gives back in a meaningful way to the children of our nation. Despite challenges in the global diamond market, including the rise of synthetic diamonds, the company still chose to make this donation.”

She said it was important to highlight the continued benefits of natural diamonds to Namibia.

Education remains a key focus of Namdeb’s social investment programmes, alongside previous projects such as the electrification of Donkerbos Primary School and the construction of a high school for the Ministry of Education.

The company said the latest project demonstrates the role of sustainable partnerships in supporting communities.
