Star Teacher of the Week: Johanna Haiduwa

1. When did your career as a teacher begin?

In 2008, I began teaching in Namibia's northern region.

2. What subjects and grades do you instruct?

I teach mathematics and life science to students in grades eight and nine, and I must say that it has been a rewarding experience.

3. Have you always wanted to be a teacher?

Because I come from a family of educators, this has been my dream since I was a child. So, I can definitely say that I am living the dream right now.

4. What is the most difficult aspect to being a teacher?

The most difficult aspect of teaching is when learners do not understand or when they miss classes.

5. What do you enjoy most about your job?

Teaching is a rewarding profession because we are constantly learning new things, and I enjoy spending time with my learners at school.

6. If you hadn't become a teacher, what would you be?

I couldn't have become anything other than a teacher. As I previously stated, I am currently living the dream.

7. What motivates and inspires you to continue teaching?

My excellent performance and love of children motivate me to continue teaching every day.

8. What do you like to do in your spare time?

Travelling and visiting various places. You get to experience new environments as a teacher during workshops, and you also learn a lot from the time you spend together with other teachers.

9. What is the most significant thing you have ever accomplished?

My learners and their outstanding results are my greatest accomplishments, especially since I contribute significantly to their future endeavours.

10. Do you have any tips for aspiring teachers?

I'd like to inspire other teachers to work hard and help Namibian children, as this profession requires a lot of passion.
