Students commemorate Independence Day

Outjo Secondary School joined national Independence Day celebrations with a programme showcasing Namibia's cultural diversity and reflecting on the country's journey to freedom.

The event brought together learners, teachers and community members in a display of patriotism, unity and cultural pride.

Proceedings began with opening remarks and prayers, setting a respectful tone for the celebrations. Learners then sang the national anthem and the school anthem, while traditional attire worn by many participants highlighted the country's rich cultural heritage and shared identity.

A key feature of the programme was a series of cultural performances presented by learners from different backgrounds, including Owambo, Herero and Caprivian communities. Through dance, music and storytelling, the performances celebrated Namibia's diverse traditions and offered insight into the customs and histories that continue to shape the nation.

Several learners also delivered speeches reflecting on the significance of independence. They paid tribute to those who fought for Namibia's freedom and emphasised the importance of national unity, peace and responsible citizenship.

The speakers encouraged young people to play an active role in building the country's future and safeguarding the gains of independence for future generations.

The programme concluded with closing remarks and a prayer, which encouraged participants to remain grateful for the freedoms they enjoy and to continue working together for the country's development.

The celebration served as a reminder that independence is not only about political freedom, but also about fostering unity, mutual respect and pride in Namibia's diverse identity.
