The stage is set for an absolute blockbuster in Namibian school rugby as Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP) and Curro Windhoek Gymnasium face off in the highly anticipated championship final of the Momentum NSSR Super League on Saturday.

Both schools have been dominating the league, with WAP at the top of the log for most of the season, and Windhoek Gymnasium ending the league on top just 2 points ahead of WAP.

Windhoek Gymnasium is ready to come back and show why they are the team to beat in this final. The team were the consecutive winners in the 2022 and 2023 championships, with them sharing the win with Windhoek High School in 2023.

Jannie de Beer, director of rugby at Curro Windhoek Gymnasium, commented, “I don't see it as a comeback at all. Last year we had a good season and played good rugby. Yet, we came up short in the semi-final against a very motivated Moria.”

WAP has won the championship twice, in 2018 and 2019, and then Covid-19 ended their winning streak, but they are more than ready and eager to take the trophy home.

Johan Zaayman, coach for the under-19 Super League WAP team, highlighted that “We are back to where we were between 2016 and 2019. WAP can once again become a force in school rugby. Our boys are a special group; once they get that feeling, the momentum is hard to stop.”

With both schools boasting passionate supporter bases in national school rugby, the atmosphere on match day promises to be electrifying. Expect high intensity, excitement, and 80 minutes of amazing rugby where a single moment of brilliance could decide who lifts the coveted trophy.
