Young models strut their stuff
At Figures Models Namibia, modelling is seen as more than learning how to walk a runway – it is a pathway for youth development, helping girls and boys grow into confident, resilient young women and men.
The vision came to life at the Disneyland Dreams Fashion Show, hosted at Pionierspark Primary School recently. With a glowing, theme-inspired backdrop, lively music and an enthusiastic audience, the runway was transformed into a fairytale setting. Young models stepped out not only in style, but with confidence and poise.
The event celebrated growth, courage and self-belief, showing how modelling can nurture character just as much as talent.
“Figures Models Namibia is much more than a modelling academy; it is a place where young people are developed, guided and empowered to become confident individuals,” says founder Juanita Koen. Training goes beyond posture and presentation. Students are taught etiquette, communication skills, leadership and emotional resilience in a safe, supportive environment that promotes a strong no-bullying culture.
Model Faizah Bwalya shares how the academy helped her rebuild her confidence. “Bullying has become the norm for many young people, but here, confidence is built. When I joined, I had lost my self-esteem. Through modelling, I found my voice again,” she says.
Parent Veronica Dauth agrees. “My daughter joined to build friendships and confidence. Here, young people find a sense of belonging and grow together,” she says.
The evening concluded with a prize-giving ceremony recognising dedication and personal growth. Bwalya received the Top Scorer Award, while category honours were presented for excellence in deportment, image building, commercial modelling and junior divisions. Special awards included Most Improved, Best Attendance and Photogenic.
The titles of Face of Figures Models Namibia went to Luame-Lee, Dane Oram and Zhora. Miss Figures Models' sashes were awarded to Dorakatia and Liandri de Beer, while Alex Smith and Aden Swiegers were sashed in the boys division.
