A passion for turning complex data into meaningful insights
Sam Simon joins MVA Fund as senior data analyst
The MVA Fund's newest member says he is excited about his new role's immense potential to use data in innovative ways.
The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund recently welcomed Sam Simon to its business improvement department as a senior data analyst. With a strong foundation in applied mathematics and statistics and hands-on experience in audit and risk management, Sam brings a valuable mix of technical expertise and strategic insight to the organisation.
He started working at the fund on 3 March following his role at Deloitte as a senior data analytics and audit consultant.
Refreshing change
Reflecting on the transition from consulting to an in-house role, Sam said: “Moving to the MVA Fund has been a refreshing change. The culture is collaborative and purpose-driven, which makes it easy to feel like you’re contributing to something meaningful.”
Since joining, Simon has been instrumental in leveraging data to support claims efficiency, build predictive models and enhance operational processes. His day-to-day involves analysing large datasets, collaborating with teams across the fund and developing insights that support business decisions.
“I spend a good portion of my day working through complex data, looking for patterns and developing solutions that can genuinely improve how the fund operates,” he explained. “What I enjoy most is taking something as complex as statistical data and turning it into something simple, visual and actionable.”
Striking a balance
Simon’s analytical thinking and attention to detail are among his key strengths.
However, he openly acknowledges that this strength can sometimes be a double-edged sword. “I have a tendency to be quite thorough – maybe a bit too thorough at times,” he admitted. “I’m learning to strike the right balance between precision and efficiency.”
As with any new role, there have been early challenges, particularly in learning industry-specific regulations and adapting to new data systems. But he has found the support from colleagues invaluable.
“Everyone’s been incredibly supportive. It’s made the learning curve far less daunting,” he said.
Now settled into his role, Simon is optimistic about the future.
“There’s so much potential here to use data in innovative ways. I’m excited to be part of that journey and to see the real impact of what we do.”
With his data-driven mindset and collaborative approach, he is poised to make a lasting contribution to the MVA Fund’s strategic goals.
