Aligning systems with evolving needs and expectations
As the CEO and co-owner of JMJ Trading Namibia, Opperman's responsibilities include overseeing company strategy, growth, stakeholder relationships and the development of internal business systems.

After completing her secondary education at Volkskool Heidelberg in South Africa, Jolanda Opperman pursued further studies that include an internal audit diploma, industrial psychology certificate and business management certifications from various institutions. "I've always wanted to work in the financial sector, and my first goal was to become an auditor," she said.

Her career initially began in the travel industry, where she worked from 1995 to 2008, gaining exposure to multiple aspects of the business.

During this time, she managed Nelson Mandela's travel arrangements and had the honour of meeting him multiple times.

In 2009,she transitioned into the financial industry as the country manager of Sage Namibia, eventually co-founding JMJ Trading Namibia in 2019.

As the CEO and co-owner, her responsibilities include overseeing company strategy, growth, stakeholder relationships and the development of internal business systems. Her passion lies in aligning these systems with evolving business needs and stakeholder expectations.

“I was exposed to all aspects of the business where I found my true passion, combined with my interest in financial management,” she said.

JMJ Trading Namibia was originally founded as a small business focusing on the agricultural sector. Through the vision of its founders, it branched out into the human resources and payroll industry and is now a medium-sized organisation employing 18.

"In late 2020 to 2021, we further expanded our solution offerings to the accounting industry. JMJ Trading Namibia is a platinum business partner of Sage Software, and we are proud of the fact the we are also among the top five partners in the Africa and Middle East region outside of South Africa," she noted.



Active approach to leadership

Opperman's active approach to leadership appears in the chances for growth and progress presented by challenges like handling different personalities and adjusting to Covid-19 challenges. She said she appreciates the constantly changing nature of her sector, which consistently offers opportunities for new ideas and custom solutions for customers.

She advised aspiring leaders in her industry to be passionate about their work, continuously seek development and embrace change as a constant factor in both personal and professional growth.

Her guiding principle in life is encapsulated in the quote "the only constant in life is change", she said, further emphasising the importance of adaptation and innovation in achieving personal and organisational goals.

In her free time, Opperman finds joy in building puzzles and spending quality time with her husband and their two sons.
