Rundu banker's career path from temporary hire to permanent position

Hans Goagoseb, currently a banker at Standard Bank Namibia's Rundu branch, has built a career rooted in hard work and consistency. Starting as a temporary hire, he was permanently appointed in June 2023.

In his current position, Goagoseb focuses on operations at the bank.

“I handle day-to-day banking transactions, manage accounts, and resolve customer issues efficiently, among other aspects,” he shared. He stated that his role demands precision and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Goagoseb’s educational background began with a computer science degree from the University of Namibia, which he completed in 2021. Currently he is pursuing a degree in informatics at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. This was however, not his original plan.

“I always wanted to be a civil engineer, but after high school, reality kicked in. I had to choose between going back home or studying computer science, which I had little interest in at the time.

Over time, I grew to love it,” he admitted.

Beyond work, Goagoseb enjoys social activities like reading clubs, boot camps, and spending time with friends.

“There must be a balance between work and social life. It helps you perform better at work and gives you a purpose outside of it,” he said.

Describing himself as courageous, humble, and grateful, Goagoseb reflects on past setbacks as lessons.

“No matter how hard it gets, stay humble. Everyone is fighting their own battles. Gratitude, even for small things, is the start of a peaceful journey.”

In his career, he stressed the importance of following procedures. “The banking industry has risks. Mistakes, even small ones, can cost your job. Always follow the laid-down processes and be honest,” he advised.

Looking ahead, Goagoseb dreams of becoming Standard Bank’s CEO. “With hard work, dedication, and wisdom, I believe it’s achievable. I am also investing time in reading financial and economic literature to prepare for the journey ahead.”
