Software developer pioneers digital tools for efficiency and inclusion

From a young age, Immanuel Namuhuja was fascinated by how technology could change lives and reshape businesses. His studies in Informatics at the Namibia University of Science and Technology deepened that passion, but it was never just about the technology – it was about using it to solve problems, spark innovation, and create meaningful impact.

“I became driven by the idea of developing solutions that automate processes and reduce costs for people and businesses,” Namuhuja said.

That determination pushed him beyond the classroom into software development, where long hours of practice and self-study laid the foundation of his craft. His breakthrough came with a pivotal internship at Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Namibia, a launchpad that transformed him from a student with big ideas into a professional developer determined to drive Namibia’s digital transformation.

Like many young professionals, Namuhuja’s biggest challenge was transitioning from university to the corporate world. The theory was there, but industry tools and workflows were new.

“I was incredibly fortunate to be mentored by Mr Nawa Likando, who guided me and trusted me with meaningful responsibilities from the start,” he said.

By embracing a learn-by-doing mindset, he absorbed knowledge from colleagues, tackled projects head-on, and turned uncertainty into confidence.

One of the proudest milestones of his career was leading a groundbreaking project with the government and the World Food Programme. Together, they digitised the disbursement of food entitlements for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable citizens. “We engineered a full-stack, cross-platform system that coordinates aid securely at retail points, even in offline environments,” Namuhuja explained.

A standout feature was the integration of secure, personalised beneficiary cards, a system that ensured both dignity and efficiency. “Knowing this solution directly impacted so many lives is my greatest professional reward,” he added.

His portfolio does not stop there. Namuhuja has helped develop the Erongo RED digital platform, streamlining customer services in the energy sector, and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board’s IN4MSME mobile app, designed to connect small and medium businesses with customers and funders, opening doors for greater economic participation. Each project, in its own way, has left a footprint of progress.

Today, as a Digital Solutions Developer at MTC, Namuhuja sees his role as a catalyst for transformation. “My work contributes directly to MTC’s digital mandate: designing and implementing solutions that improve efficiency and service delivery. But beyond that, I want to help set a new digital standard for Namibia. We are not just preparing for the future; we are actively building it here and now,” he said.
