Creating awareness about drug and alcohol abuse

Ellen Pakkies is partnership with CODAC the coastal drug awareness campaign visit Coastal High to educate leaners about fighting against drug and alcohol abuse. CODAC decided to invite Ellen to share her living testimony on effects of drug and alcohol abuse. Ellen Pakkies was known as a loving mother, a religious woman and upstanding member of her community, but on September morning in 2007 she killed her son Abie Pakkies, Abie was addicted to crysal meth and he later started abusing his mom and on top of That he stole everything that was valuable in the house .Ellen tried going to the police, social workers and even went to that extent of taking her son to the court but the system failed and miserably she cannot deal with it anymore.

This drug (crysal meth) can over stimulate circulation damaging the heart and speed up the nervous system and cause fits. They can also make you anxious and paranoid as with any drug that give a high combination with alcohol you are at risk of everything from nausea and vomiting to come and then DEATH.

Ellen further said she was raped and kidnapped multiple times from the age of 4 to 29 years of age she was married four times, bullied at school and she had no one to love or someone to love her during the murdering of her drug addicted son Ellen Pakkies said she simply wanted to stop his downward spiral into addiction Pakkies trial for murder made headlines in 2007 after she strangled to death 20 year old Abie, Even those I thought of as a friend hurt me. Now at the age of 58 she is aimed at preventing teenagers from making the same life choices her son Abie has made,

The Coastal Gazette has approached a few teachers and leaners to hear about what they had to say after the visit ‘I think it opened the leaners eyes an it made then realize the dangers involved in using drugs seeing how a mother was able to take her own sons life due to drug abuse Ms Ngula said ,Azelle Dominique Rooi said I personally think that it was very challenge for a mother and the son because pain the mother felt the suffering the child went through was very difficult going through drugs abuse so as I Coastal High School leaner I feel that we can face a mothers pain and as a child knowing that through our failures we hurt a the people around us so I think we can make a change.

Reflecting to Julian Rose was at our School coastal High School on the 13 September, It started like this when Julian was 20 years old he was a very energetic person , he had a high end vehicle(Audi A2), he had argument with his girlfriend (she torn he nail and Bruces on the knees ) and he thought that by drinking alcohol it would solve his problems, So he had a strong sip of alcohol and forgot to wear his sit belts and accidentally, he was hit on the front mirror and it caused him to eject from the seat belt.

Julian Rose was in a Rehabilitation Centre he was in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit ), his brain was traumatized for instance, It affected his speech and his balance in his body, According to his sitter she said Jessi Rose ‘’Imagine you trying to eat your favorite food but you cannot eat It’’ and his sister said he is recovery slowly for instance she had to make him remember how their childhood was, she has big dreams as to go far as London but she thinks her brother is her first priority. She feels that her brother can’t fulfill his dreams so she is fulfilling his dreams for him.

Mr Hoss says “I am paid to tell children to drink responsibly, and if you want to drink have cab money to go home and be driven home by someone that is sober”, he further says that Julian’s testimony inspires him a lot and by the age of 40 Julian would be fully recovered.
