A season of shooting hoops!
Towards the end of the season Dawid Bezuidenhout’s basketball team had a lot to reflect on and memories that would be forever with them. It was not always easy, The team had many obstacles that they had to overcome but came out at winners in the end, not winners of the game itself but winners of life because they have learned so much throughout the year that have contributed to the people they are today. All three teams the U/19boys, U/19 girls and U/16 boys made it to the semi-finals and this meant that during the August holidays the teams had to train every day of the week in order to prepare for the semi-finals. The dedicated teams practised in the hot sun with windy conditions, but in the end it paid off. The boys U/16 played against Khomas High for third place and won. The U/19 girls played for the third place finals against Khomas high on Saturday 12 October 2019. This was a tough game for them because it was a long time since the girls trained and the team only had 5 players with no substitutes. Despite this, the girls’ team managed to win the 3rd place game against Khomas High. The U/19 Boys had some great competition in the semi-finals; the first game playing against Windhoek International School was definitely the game of the season. This saw Lukeni Cortez shoot a 3-pointer in the last seconds of the game for the team to go into overtime and win the game to go through to the finals. For the finals Dawid Bezuidenhout met again with their long-time adversaries Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) to win for first place in the finals. From the beginning it was a tight game for both teams. Tensions were high and the gym hall of DHPS was loud with the supporters from both teams, each side wanting their teams to win! Towards the end of the game Dawid tried to make a comeback as with the game against Windhoek International but this time around they had to give the win to DHPS. Even though they lost, in some way they have won in our lives and as a team, growing from strength to strength. They also achieved 3rd place in the men’s basketball league, 2nd division. There are a lot to be proud of this year. For next year they are planning to go back to the drawing board, work on their mistakes and give all their blood, sweat, tears, passion and sacrifice again for their school.
Always proud to represent our school Dawid Bezuidenhout.
The message from the coach to his team “A coach’s success is measured not in the number of wins he produced but in the number of winners produced! You are all winners”
