A term review of the Waldorf School Windhoek Junior Council Representative
Martin Hanke and Zephania Kameeta - In April this year Martin Hanke will be stepping down as the Waldorf School Windhoek Junior Council Representative to be replaced by former understudy and future Junior Councilor Zephania Kameeta. Kayleigh Damon will be taking over as understudy, and Zephania Kameeta will take over the main councilor position. At the end of 2014, our principal Mrs. Landsberg wanted to appoint a representative from the school to the City of Windhoek Junior Council, made up of learners from schools all over Windhoek. Following a written interview done by the whole class, Martin Hanke became the nominated Councilor Zephaniah Kameeta in grade 11 became the first Understudy from the school.
Now that the choosing was done, we had to start meeting the new expectations of the council. The first surprise was, that we needed a formal uniform with blazer, as required from all Junior councilors for the monthly meetings and all sorts of government functions. And so came along the uniform that is now the school uniform for the whole school. As well, the Junior council uniform needed braids to state the same status as in most other schools.
The council itself was very baffling, as it proved to be 70 scholars communicating in a very high, productive and very enjoyable manner. We were both in awe over a world of communication, achievements, social engagement and development, intra school relation, variation, public exposure and so much more that we stepped into. We were lost, as we were completely new without any experience. And yet, the council was warm and very welcoming towards us.
On 21 February 2016, the core project SALT (Save a Life Today) eventuated in Zoo Park, at which also the Germany Choir 2016 performed. It was a huge success, despite Kayleigh and Zephania’s late arrival due to the conflict with the Trimester Festival happening at Waldorf School Windhoek on the same day. The choir performed to a large audience and this boosted Waldorf School Windhoek in the eyes of the public and the other councilors.
