Work Integrated Learning is a program that enables university students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
Old Mutual is proactively engaging with local universities to harvest top students for its work integrated learning programs. It has programs namely Internship and Graduate Accelerated Programs (GAP), give eligible students an opportunity to gain professional experience in a highly specialised environment, stretching over six to twelve months respectively.
According to Human Resources Manager Stephanus Vries, work integrated learning is a valuable platform for Old Mutual to build capacity in a highly competitive industry.
“Not only have we retained our position as top employer in Africa in 2017, but we have remained the industry leader in the financial sector for the 7th consecutive year. Work integrated learning therefore enables us to spot talent. Since 2015, 51 students from local universities have benefited from work integrated learning at the company and this year, Old Mutual took in 11 students to serve in various fields,” he says.

While recruitment is handled directly with University Student Liaison Officers, students should have an average of 65% and be in their Final year of studies to qualify.
