De Duine takes action against the current economical problem

Sonja Von Broen
In recent event leading up to now, we have noticed that our country Namibia is going through an economical problem. This problem has forced the government to take drastic measures and cut the budgets of the different ministries. If we take a look at the Ministry of Education’s budget we’ll notice that they have cut all the children in the school’s budget. Should this problem continue they will be forced to stop FREE EDUCATION! De Duine Secondary School has had a lot of small projects to improve the situation for the school. They had done projects such as a talent show, Mr and Mrs De Duine, Mrs New comer and so much more! We believe that we’ll make it through this crisis and it will make us a far better school at the end of the day. I talked to some of the learners at De Duine and Gillian De We said: ‘If I haven’t read the all the articles or if I haven’t watched the news I wouldn’t even have known that we are in a financial problem’. She continued by saying that she has faith in her school and the government and knows that they will find a way out of it.

Our school will not let this get the best of us. We have sat goals for ourselves and plan to turn those goals into a reality. We plan on getting a new bus for the school and also to finish building our wall around the school. This problem that we’re facing will not get the best of us we will proceed as planned. We believe that this economic problem will be dissolved soon! But until then we will take this opportunity to prove ourselves as people that don’t back down from a challenge! We will not let this beat us, says Izaan Van Rooyen another learner at De Duine. Now is the time ‘to stand together hand in hand’. If the economical problem continues we will have to pay school fees again, which isn’t a bad idea. We as the future leaders have to be prepared for tomorrow and if there is no other way forward we have to do what is best for the country’s economical problem, the schools and us the leaders of tomorrow! I believe that if we stand together through this situation we’ll make it anywhere! If De Duine can do something about this crisis I truly believe that each public school can take action against this problem.
