Inquisitive minds at the tourism expo
Independent and inquisitive, critically looking at and discussing day-to-day happenings – these are typical traits of DHPS students. Especially in the final years DHPS prepares their students for a life after school by including social and political events in and around Windhoek or Namibia especially in Geography.
A topic that the grade twelves are discussing intensively at the moment in Geography is “Sustainable Tourism in Namibia.” Thus leading the grade twelves going on an expedition to the Tourism Expo in groups. The logo of the Expo this year was “Eco-Tourism”. Our group visited the Expo Thursday evening on the 11th of June 2015. In the main Hall many lodges have been questioned and interviewed. Most of the lodges are striving forward to a more environment friendly destination for tourists by using Solar Panels, Recycling etc. Walking around and looking in the other halls, we have noticed, that the tourism of Namibia is heading more towards an Eco-Friendly Environment. Every individual has a good and interesting idea which would forge the Eco-tourism. However, these Ideas should be spread out more to the Namibian citizens and the community, like that Namibia could become sustainable, in the Tourism factor. The Expo this year has helped influencing the spreading of the Eco-friendly Ideas. As we have seen, more people know now how the lodges work, in their environment friendly atmospheres and that the ideas have been spread and want to be used in the near future.
