LRC Leadership Camp

AUGUSTINIUM SCHOOL
Everything rises and falls under leadership. On the 5th of February 2016, the schools LRCs and hostel prefects under the leadership of their guardian teacher miss Shipanga went to a leadership training camp. It was held at the Rock training centre situated about 10 km out of Okahandja. Many might think that this camp was a piece of cake or a time of leisure for these boys and girls, but that was not at all the case. Upon arrival, their facilitator MR JL gave them 5 minutes to put away their luggage in their given dormitories.
They had limited time to perform all the activities that they had to and if any of them were late their punishment would be pushups. On the first day they had to sleep in the veld but things didn’t go quite a planned as it started raining so they had to walk back to camp. For the following days they did all kinds of activities that served as life lessons for them for example abseiling which taught them about overcoming their fears. Other activities also taught them about trust, team work, co-operation, communication and dedication.
They also had sessions based on leadership which was delivered MR Lian, their facilitator MR JL and MR Kevin who emphasized on the importance of being responsible as a leader, serving others and they as leaders to always put God first, this awakened their spiritual senses and made them grow closer to God. In their spare time they got to swim, play volley ball and soccer and this made them get to know each other on a social level.
On the day of their departure they had a session about forgiveness were they learned that forgiveness is choosing not to remember and that forgiveness unlocks blessings. Our principal MR Matengu arrived early in the morning and gave them a short word of encouragement. In conclusion this camp was a worthwhile experience for them and they gained more knowledge which they will use to make change and implement order at our school.

We also spoke to some of the LRC members and found out what they learned and enjoyed about the leadership camp. This is what they head to say:
Hilma Namuhuya, Gr 12A:
“I learned about leadership and that should not always word individually. Always try to work with one another as a team. I also learned that in whatever you do; God should be your first priority. I enjoyed activities like abseiling and the obstacle course and I truly had a lot of fun”.
Martin Lilingwe, Gr 11A:
“I learned about how to be a true leader, how to work together as a team. I enjoyed the food, especially the braai meat”.
Vicky Aludhilu, Gr 11D:
I learned that teamwork is of vital importance and two heads as better than one. And that forgiveness is choosing not to remember. I enjoyed the activities that we did and the fact that I got to know my fellow colleagues socially”.
McCalvin Peters, Gr 12A:
“I’ve learned that teamwork is an important aspect when it comes to leadership. Values and responsibility are much more important than they are usually referred to. I learned new skills and gained more knowledge on how to discipline myself in order to influence others. I mean that is what leadership is about!”
Gidion Nuseb, Gr 11D:
“I learned all the good characteristics of what it takes to become a leader. I learned about teamwork and out of all the activities that we did, abseiling was my favourite. I really enjoyed myself”.
Caroline Kondubo, Gr 12D:
“At the camp I learned how to be a great leader with love, integrity and respect; I learned to involve God in my everyday routine. I enjoyed activities such as abseiling, the trust fall, problem solving, swimming and not forgetting some push-ups too”.
Henry Nasilele, Gr 11A:
“I learned about teamwork, discipline and respect. I enjoyed activities such as swimming, abseiling and the trust fall”.
Teodor Iita, Gr 12A:
“Well, since I was already at the camp last year it was more or less a repetition of what I had already experienced. The Rock training centre teaches and encourages team work and that’s what I learned. I enjoyed most of the fun activities like swimming, playing soccer, abseiling and paintball”.
Toini Shilongo, Gr 11D:
“I learned that teamwork is better than working individually, that discipline creates conditions for team performance and to never let individualism get in the way of team performance. More important is that if you ever want to climb Mount Everest you should have an Everest team. I enjoyed swimming and abseiling”.
Polycarpus Munghome, Augustenium S.S.
“I feel honoured to step with both feet into this leadership position, because I believe and trust that my school will be a better place. Moreover, I will influence everyone in the school with the intention of generating a good relationship around me. Like me, most people believe that a good relationship is needed because without the love of people you can’t really achieve your objectives easily. People need to be encouraged by your doing good based on your attitude, your way of living and the way you communicate with them.
