Mines ministry awards KGK diamond employees

The deputy minister of mines and energy, Kornelia Shilunga handed over certificates to the employees of KGK group - Diamond Company on the on 5 September.

Four employees from KGK Diamonds were sent to India for an advance technical training pertaining to planning, analyzing and polishing diamonds for a total of three months.

The training lasted from May until July and Vevangapi Kavikunua, Daniel Shekunyenge, Kornelia Mbunga and Puumue Kauejao were the four employees who attended the training.

The employees were awarded with a recognition certificate for each successfully completing the training program along with other participants from South Africa and Botswana.

Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Shilunga, said that Namibia has produced approximately 2 million carats of rough diamonds in 2017 which lead to it being ranked 9th position in global diamond production and 6th position in exports value.

“Namibia still boasts with its achievements in being a pioneer in offshore diamond exploration and mining, thus extracting diamonds of relatively high gem quality globally,” she said.

Shilunga further said that when recognizing somebody for a job well done, it is important to highlight the value of the award. She congratulated the employees of KGK Diamonds for undertaking the training successfully.

“The ministry would like to motivate and encourage you to remain our future shining lights of the Namibian diamond downstream industry,” she said.
