NHC, NBC enter heritage awareness partnership
STAFF REPORTERThe National Heritage Council of Namibia (NHC) and the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) held a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NBC headquarters on 2 December.
This marks the first time the two institutions have come together for the promotion of heritage and its importance to the Namibian public.
These institutions share a similar mandate - informing and educating the public.
The MoU paves the way to raising awareness of Namibia’s heritage sites and objects.
The NHC thought it best to enter into this agreement because the NBC reaches 1.6 million Namibians on television and radio in different languages.
Supporting Africa
The first activity being implemented between the two institutions was made possible by generous financial assistance received from the German Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation under the #SOSAfricanHeritage funding initiative.
The initiative was aimed at supporting African states to overcome the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic at World Heritage Sites.
Namibia chose to produce two documentaries on Twyfelfontein /Ui-//Aes and the Namib Sand Sea.
“The NHC thanks the NBC for its willingness to support the institution’s efforts towards preserving today for tomorrow,” a statement read.
