The occasion of the council business of the year 2021, which marks the kick off of their official assignment as democratically elected leaders, was held on 29 January at the Khomas regional council chamber in Windhoek.

The event attended by Khomas governor Laura McLeod Katjirua, Windhoek major Dr Job Amupanda, regional and local authority councillors, chief regional officers and staff of the Khomas regional council.

This occasion encouraged democratically elected leaders to resume their service delivery contract with the Khomas community. The regional councillors plan to embark on their new journey of service to the people of the community with full strength and willingness to serve. The councillors plan on creating more avenues for collective planning, monitoring, execution and implementation of their development programmes in the region.

This is the starting line of the five-year marathon of the service delivery to the Khomas community as a trusted team of loyal and patriotic servants of the people of region.

At the official ceremony, McLeod-Katjirua said “if you were a self-proclaimed voice of the voiceless, self-proclaimed community representative, from today and beyond, you are now an honourable councillor”.

It is on the basis that McLeod-Katjirua joined the chairperson to appeal for absolute unity of purpose and constant coordination between the regional council, City of Windhoek, the governor’s office and all the other strategic institutions in the region.

Shaalukeni John Moonde said “we aspire to be creative in our approach to address present issues affecting our people”.

“We will strive to be ever-present in our communities to understand their needs and look for solutions to their problems as we promised.”

This on its own shows a great sense of understanding and commitment to do the outmost for their community.

The council aims to be innovative in their dealing and to embrace technology in the execution of their duties to bring about the much-needed development.

McLeod-Katjirua also requested the full utilisation of the existing Khomas regional and local authority councillors’ forum’s quarterly meetings to share their common challenges and to cement their efforts towards the service delivery obligation as a united force.

“It’s time for the Khomas regional council to venture towards a united team striving towards a common goal,” she said.
