M&K Gertze High School is the youngest high school in Rehoboth, which means it had many shoes to fill, like those of her bigger sisters Dr. Lemmer High School and Rehoboth High School. Although it was young, it was never actually in the shadows of her two bigger sisters, because it was good in both academics and sports, but what makes it stood out even more is the fact that it has the only Technical Centre in whole Hardap Region.

The Technical Centre was designed to accommodate and to train learners skills like office administration, welding mechanics etc. Today many of the subjects are still being offered like design and technology. Mr.R.Britz trains learners how to work on automobiles and Mr.J.Joseph trains the boys how to weld and do wood work. With the new curriculum that has been established, new subjects has become available like hospitality. “We teach the girls skills like how to politely answer telephones and make beds in hotels and even cooking”, said Ms.C.Strauss, the hospitality teacher. “M&K Gertze has surely bred its fair share of builders, architects, and mechanics and even now we try to train great hotel staff and management in our hospitality part of the Technical Centre”, said Mr.J.Denk the principal.

Many leaners have learned a lot from the their teachers, “Mr Joseph has been a real inspiration for me, because he taught me all the important skills I need, and he always gives a lending hand whenever I needed any help,” said Simile Vries, headboy of M&K Gertze High School, “He was actually the one who taught me how to weld.”

“The Technical Centre was actually a good thing as it helps learners who are good with their hands and to build their skills and learn new skills,” said Shirley-Ann Clarke.
