Review of the Revue

This year’s revue, called “Technicolour Opening Doors”, was held on the 28-30th of September. The story of the revue centers around a young girl and her journey through coloured doors that represent different school years. Spectators at the “National Theatre of Namibia” (NTN) were dazzled by a beautifully choreographed show performed by Windhoek Gymnasium learners. The spectacular show held this year was the result of all the hard work put in by teachers, learners and choreographers.

The NTN was packed. Nervous children were pacing; proud parents were charging the batteries on their video cameras and practicing tight close-ups on their little darlings. The high school participants said that the audience enjoyed every bit of the show, especially when the primary school performed.

Ju-Ane Oberholzer a participant said, “The experience was absolutely fantastic! I put in so many hours into the play to learn every single move, yet I was still nervous because I did not want to disappoint my group members, teachers, choreographers and especially not the audience. It was really fun and exciting to perform on stage and to have given it my all. Every time we finished performing my group members and I wished that we could perform one last time. Even if you are not a performer, I would advise everyone to take part of the revue just to be part of an awesome group of learners and build new friendships, while enjoying your experience. If you never try, you will never know!"

The sheer joy that acting and connecting to the audience gave to the young performers was palpable for those lucky enough to take performing beyond the school gates and into The National Theatre of Namibia. Learners now have a boosted confidence, a sense of purpose and of course, a potential arts career, all for the taking.

To conclude, the revue was a fantastic opportunity for learners of all grades to form lifelong bonds and express themselves through dance. Furthermore, the hours of rehearsal were all worth it to see the sparkle in the eyes of the audience. The learners found themselves exhausted after every show but also sad when it was over. Likewise, all high school learners are encouraged to participate in the next revue as it is an experience you cannot leave school without! The DVD of the revue is for sale at the primary school reception.
