Three schools in the Hardap Region received a donation of 600 re-useable sanitary pads and 570 textbooks from Avril Payment Solutions. The schools benefiting from the donation are Anna Maasdorp Combined School, PJ Tsaitsaib Secondary School and Vooruitsig Junior Secondary School.

Kashmira Platt, public relations officer at Avril Payment Solutions, said the company wants to plough back into the nation and thought the best place for their investment would be in education. The donation included 285 mathematics textbooks and 285 English textbooks for grade 8 and 9 learners.

The acting regional director of education, Aletta Eises, urged the learners to use the books for their benefit and to obtain good grades. Eises also outlined the importance of school attendance and that performance and attendance go hand in hand.

“When you are on time at school it indicates that you are interested in your schooling and it shows also that you respect yourself and others,” she said.

Eises was particularly thankful for the donation of the sanitary pads.

“Girls are frequently staying out of school during their menstruation as they cannot afford sanitary pads. This donation will definitely keep girls in school and they will not miss out on valuable school work,” she said.
