With opening remarks from Katutura Central constituency councillor Rodman Katjaimo, who said “I will avail myself to you all”, the handover ceremony - from Alexander Forbes to the Lidar Community Foundation – kicked off on 11 May.

Nancy Maphosa, the newly appointed marketing manager at Alexander Forbes Namibia, took over the Lidar project, which Alexander Forbes has been a part of for three years.

“I was quite inspired and excited,” said Maphosa about her initial thoughts on the project.

According to her, she finds it inspiring that the foundation leans towards being self-sustainable while empowering women and all the parties involved as beneficiaries.

Alexander Forbes donated a lump sum of N$60 000 from 31 April to March 2022, these funds will go towards the operational costs of the foundation. In addition to the monetary contribution, the company handed over two stoves and a deep freezer to make the lives easier for foundation’s young mothers and girls.

The founder of the foundation, Serely Khaxas, said the donation and money will change the lives of many young mothers. According to her, some of these mothers does not have proper refrigeration at their homes and the freezer will assist them with freezer blocks, which the mothers will, be able to take to their homes.

Invited guests tasted the sweet fruits in the form of fudge and muffins made by volunteers and beneficiaries of the Lidar community. The sponsored stoves will also increase the production of the latter, which will then be sold.

Rebecca van der Bijl, one of the beneficiaries from the foundation, is currently studying law at the University of Namibia (Unam) and shared her story of support she receives from the foundation as an orphan.

She commended and thanked the foundation for carrying her throughout her educational career.
