Swakopmund Secondary school celebrates 40 years
The diverse school community of the Swakopmund Secondary School (SSS) is gearing towards celebrating a major milestone in the lifespan of the institution.The school opened its doors in 1976 and has become an institution rich in tradition, with a variety of academic, sport and cultural activities aimed at educating the 'whole-child'. The solid foundation laid in 1976 encouraging mutual respect, allegiance and academic excellence is still evident in the present school community of SSS.
The heart of the Swakopmund Secondary school beats in its motto “AD ANUM OMNES' and is reflected in all who have embraced it and whose heart beats are 'United in Diversity'.
SSS is not only the pride of the current scholars, but also to those who call it their 'alma mater' and all who are and have been associated with it at some point.
Today, SSS has about 1200 learners, 40 staff members, with the principal and five head of departments making up the management. Our teaching staff as well as our learners are from all walks of life and are fully reflective of the diversity that has become a common phenomenon as the smile of Namibia. True to our motto, SSS is made stronger by the difference in the ethnic, racial and economic backgrounds of our community and have long ago learnt to embrace and appreciate and draw strength from our differences. Our campus has made us one and whenever we sing our anthem, we proudly exclaim 'Ons eie SSS'.
Over the years, Swakopmund Secondary School has establish itself as a centre of excellent and has of late received awards for being the school with the most improved results in the Erongo Region for both Grade 10 and 12 results.
Our sport teams have also excelled and presently, we have many learners doing duty as part of National Soccer (boys and girls) Teams in Namibia. Our debaters have received national and we have a strong and vibrant choir culture.
On September 2 till the 4th, SSS will officially celebrate the milestone of forty great years of educating the Namibian child. Mr Elia Manga, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education, Erongo Regional Directorate has agreed to be Patron of the Festival.
On Friday, September 2, a Gala Dinner will be held.
On Saturday, a Family Fun Day is planned at the Vineta Central Sport Stadium, with soccer and netball games slated against invited schools. Various entertainment activities will be presented and the day will culminate with music show with the country's best artist.
On Sunday, 4 September, a Thanksgiving Service and gospel show will bring a fitting end to the official celebrations.
