The Coastal Mathematics Challenge 2016

Private School Swakpmund


The Coastal Math''s Challenge was held on 219 June 2016 at Namib High School. There were 40 participants form Swakopmund and 40 participants from Walvis Bay.

The participants of Private School Swkopmund were:

Grade 8: Michael Calitz, Sara Gomez and Lisa Müller

Grade 9: Wi van der Plas, Julian Nel, Nicole Reischauer-Buchert, Lauren Woolf and Tinaye Murasiki

Grade 10: Jontahan Ulrich, Oscar Calitz, Tiago Kutz, Tafadzwa Mashamba, Alexander Kittel, Berno Goebel, Marco Schütte and Chelsea Venter.



The young mathematicians had to complete a speed test for 40 marks in 10 minutes without the use of a calculator, a multiple choice test and a team test.

Grade 8: Gold medalists Sara Gomez and Michael Calitz

Grade 9: Gold medalist Julian Nel

Grade 10: Silver medalist Jonathan Ulrich



The team winners of PSS were:

Grade 8: Gold medal for Sara Gomes and Michael Calitz

Grade 9: Wim van der Plas and Julian Nel

Grade 10: Johnathan Ulrich, Oscar Calitz, Tafadzwa Mashambo and Tiago Kutz and a bronze medal to Marco Schütte and Chelsea Venter





The young mathematicians of today seek answers to the truth an believe everything can be explained through numbers just like Pythagoras and his followers 2500 years ago. The pupils of PSS had fun attending the well organized Coastal Math Challenge and, meeting like-minded pupils. See you all next year.
