The ripple of the #Fishrot
Edwinia KastoorThe Dunes Paper team asked a few learners on how they feel about the recent #Fishrot Saga and the impact it made on ordinary people and the country. Here is what they had to say.
Moesta Maiziveyi
This had a big impact on our community, not just the people involved in it. It had a ripple affect which led to nothing good. Many people lost their jobs and now our economy will take a number of years to recover from this.
Killian Beukes
A huge sense of betrayal has happened and they should face their consequences. The money which was given through bribes could have benefited the country and could have been used for the needs of the country
Benedine Hoeses
The fish rot scandal has affected a lot of sectors. A lot of employees were retrenched which obviously had a negative effect on the family depending on that income. This caused a lot of stress and many more issues within the household.
Angelo Endjala
It increased our economic crises in Namibia and in the fishing industry. It’s very disappointing to know that the Ministry of Justice is also involved in the Fishrot. A person who is supposed to protect and defend us is part of the problem, which doesn’t make sense at all.
Princess Stevens
I feel that the corruption in Namibia is way too much and is unfair to the people doing the most work. These ministers and their associates are robbing Namibia of its future and resources. If everyone just stops being so greedy our country will grow and develop.
Shaida Limon
It has a negative impact on the development of the country. Less money will be available to invest in the infrastructures such as the health and education which can fuel the economic growth in a country. They took advantage of our biggest economic resources which is our fish.
Rosalia Kambonde
It gives the wrong impression to other countries that our country and the elite powers have no judicial values. It created unnecessary unemployment within the country as most of the fish quotas were given to the bribery companies neglecting the government facilities.
Lawrence Iishuna
It increased the unemployment, reducing the standards of living, increasing the criminal activities. Itis very unfair for us as the upcoming generation. Corruption going on in our country leads us to either be part of it or go make a change the system.
Shiniel Paulse
Ministry of Justice being implicated in such a matter levels a bad trust in the mouth of the citizens it is supposed to uphold and protect the law of the country. His character should be unquestionable with regards to corruption. If this is the behavior of the minister of justice, who can we trust?
Jessica Noabes
Its sad because at the end we need to be part of such an economy where we don’t even have a say in. They are all old men in the parliament which allows no fresh, young ideas. This bring greed and corruption and it won’t change now.
