Visitors from Afar

Dolphin Schools
Edward Smith
Our school was graced with visitors from the land down under, Australia. They brought the secondary school a vast array of knowledge and educated all in attendance on the fascinating facts about their country, highlighting wonderful contrasts and similarities such as the dry, barren lands, vast open spaces and amazing rock formations between our world and theirs.
The couple, who also sponsor the education of one of our students were very amicable and personable. They presented a tightly knitted story of the magnificent animals and plants that lie scattered over the Australian outback. From the dingo to the platypus every dog got his day in a wonderful mention and vivid pictures that seemed to come to life as they were projected for the awe and wonder of the students. The students received a brief biology lesson on the machinations of marsupials from the kangaroo to Koala (which as it turns out is not an actual bear). The students, with open mouths and attentive ears hanged on every word that was said and felt great anticipation for more to come.
The animal kingdom was not the only ones to be mentioned by our honored guests. As the laws of nature was pushed aside to make way for the creation of man with pictures of the wondrous architecture put on display for all to see starting with the Sydney harbor and the famous opera house, moving swiftly to 4x4 trips that seemed to get the Grade 8 lads excited with the idea of touring the desert.
At the conclusion of their presentation it was time to say goodbye, much to the chagrin of the students. Mr Mc Carthy thanked them for making the time to address the students with such enthusiasm. The guests, in turn thanked Mr Mc Carthy and presented him with a book containing some more facts about their fantastic country. Mr Mc Carthy has made the book available to all students of the Dolphin Schools in the school's library.
