Jo-Mari Bosman is a Visual Merchandising is a retail practice that uses floor plans, equipment and displays to maximise sales.

Her responsibilities include compiling weekly communication to stores on Promotional Launches, Sales and Merchandising info, store Equipment Layout (where and how to use the in-store equipment), seasonal Launch Look and Feel (how stores and windows look for specific seasons e.g. summer vs. winter) and window and In-Store Displays for Promotions. She also deals with ordering quantities of Signage and Marketing Elements.

On a daily basis Bosman has to communicate with printing suppliers and check the supplies. Part of the job comes with opening new stores and offering seasonal workshops. She works close with the Marketing, Store operations, and buying and store design departments and maintains and communicates merchandise standards for all stores.

Bosman does store visits to check and see if stores received and actioned communication and promotional elements correctly she then follows up on store queries and deliveries of marketing materials from the DC.

“I keep the distribution lists up to date so that correct stores receive the correct marketing elements and make sure that latest looks and trends are communicated to stores,” she says.

Some of the character traits one should have when working in her industry is great inter-personal skills (you deal with many different people on a daily basis in many different positions, you need to be able to know how to deal with different personalities and characters to be able to build good and lasting relationships)
