WHS represents in Namibian teams

As the sport season is now in full swing, it is once again time for practice, leagues and matches. This time of the season also calls for the Namibian teams to be chosen for rugby and hockey.

The trials for the NSSU hockey teams were held on Saturday, the 8th of June. In the u/14 girls team, Mia Burger was chosen. The team will be travelling to Bloemfontein to compete.

In the u/16 girls team, Kyana Crous, Anthea Coetzee and Keba Semedo was chosen. Krynauw Weber, Josh van der Merwe, JP Britz and Brendon Lensen were all chosen for the u/16 boys team. In the u/18 girls team, Suné Crous, Mari Steenkamp, Azaria Wallace and Danelle Steenkamp, were chosen. All the u/16 and u/18 girls’ and boys’ teams will be travelling to Paarl in South Africa to compete.

One of the involved coaches, Mr. Johann Weyhe, said that some players chosen were still very developing players, and this would be a good learning experience for the them. According to Mr. Weyhe, there were also a lot of experienced and well-trained players picked, who would not only contribute to the success of the teams, but also help other players learn.

Also concerning hockey, Duré Boshoff, Joané van Rooyen and Armin van Staden were chosen for the NHU national senior women’s field hockey team, where they will compete in the FIH series final Olympic qualifiers in Valencia, Spain. They will compete later in June.

On the rugby front, there were trials held on the 10th of May for the national teams. Daniel Opperman was the captain of the Khomas u/18 team, placing 3rd in the u/18 division. Sheron Rossouw led the Hage Geingob u/18 team, where they won all five of their matches and the u/18 tournament. Riaan Grové was the captain of the u/16 Khomas team, winning all five matches and the u/16 tournament. HJ de Beer led the Solly Duiker u/18 team, placing second in the u/16 division.

Both Daniel Opperman and Sheron Rossouw were picked for the u/18 Namibian team. Riaan Grové and HJ de Beer were chosen for the u/16 Namibian team. These teams will be taking part in South Africa later in the month.
