The PK de Villiers Secondary School learner representative council (LRC) in Keetmanshoop hosted a winter charity campaign on 20 May during which they distributed winter clothing and hot soup to underprivileged community members in !Homsui.

The main purpose of the donation drive was to build a positive connection with the community.

This was the school's first charity drive.

"We care about the future dreams of the young kids who are out there without enough support, so as the LRC, we want to build a positive connection with them by giving back so we can make a difference in their lives as a token of giving hope to life," said Delmain Cloete, PK de Villiers head girl.

Another reason for the charity drive is to help learners become responsible citizens in their society by giving back to the community.

Their drive is also about educating the community about the spirit of Ubuntu and making less advantaged community members feel valued and loved.

"We can say with great joy in our hearts that the donation drive was a success. The turnout was excellent, and we got a chance to accommodate enough people. We would like to thank all the people that sponsored us; we couldn't have done it without them," Cloete said.
