Self-starters to self-made
Young entrepreneur creates his own Namibian experience
Paulus Kanyangela falls nothing short of uniqueness, nerve and style. His branded Captain Hendrik Witbooi shirts should become a staple in the closet of everyone who is looking for locally produced Namibian luxury.
The young entrepreneur not only provides Namibians with a local brand to be proud of, but is equipping himself with the lifelong ability to defend himself in a court of law. Kanyangela is studying towards an LLB degree at the University of Namibia as a final-year student.
Having started with his studies in 2019 and his business initiative in his first year, Paulus has remained on top of things throughout his business career and without dropping the ball on his studies. “I wouldn’t say I’ve let any of my prior commitments go,” says Kanyangela.
Born in Walvis Bay, the young man enjoys long drives by the ocean and taking time for himself. When he is not out and about, Kanyangela enjoys watching anything that can put him to sleep at night.
Surrounding him with likeminded and driven people is one of the things that keep Kanyangela going. “I’m constantly surrounded by friends and family who are innovative. Working alongside them has made me see the different qualities they possess,” says Kanyangela.
His commitment and drive have made it possible for him to sell his clothes next to the likes of the king of colourful Namibian socks, Gweri Vintage. Kanyangela currently sells his shirts in Grove Mall Namibia at the Gweri Vintage shop, hoping to soon make his shirts available countrywide.
Being a firm believer in making little efforts that build into solving problems, Kanyangela is moving in the direction of making his dreams a reality.
“First you need to start, and an idea cannot remain an idea forever,” he advises anyone who would like to start their own business venture. He further mentions that one should take risks to see your idea become a reality and that you should appreciate all your small efforts. “There will always be solutions to problems, and no matter how challenging they seem, they can be solved,” says the master behind the creations of Jnr Clothing.
